Community Volunteer Ambassadors provide outreach to the community by promoting the Festival through their community organizations, employers, libraries, and STEM events. Community Volunteers can also participate in the X-­STEM Ambassador program as a student or administrator/parent for the school. Community Volunteers also serve in the important role of School District or Regional Volunteer Outreach Team Coordinators who become the first point of contact for volunteers on the Volunteer Outreach Team.

Volunteer Outreach Team members will get first notification of leadership opportunities during the EXPO weekend. Leaders will be selected from the Volunteer Outreach Team for early planning and coordination for EXPO weekend volunteers.


School District or Regional Volunteer Outreach Coordinator:

  • Can be youth or adult (often co-­coordinators)
  • Represent schools districts, educational groups, libraries
  • Resource for X-STEM School Coordinators in area
  • Attend Volunteer Outreach Team Meetings
  • Email or call volunteers in area prior to Volunteer Meetings
  • Distribute materials to volunteers in area
  • Determine schools who don't have representation & notify volunteers
  • Speak to Superintendent to ensure promotional materials get to students
  • Present information about Festival to School Board Meetings

Community Volunteer Outreach Team Member:

  • Can be youth or adult (youth can also be X-­STEM w/school registration)
  • Do not need to be associated with school
  • Provide outreach to professional organizations, STEM companies, & non-­profit educational organizations
  • Work shifts at local DC Area STEM Events
  • Submit DC Area STEM Events for Volunteer Network
  • Distribute posters/postcards to community and schools not in X-­STEM program
