Dr. Sylvia Earle's love of the ocean began early in life growing up in New Jersey and Florida. She's transformed that affection and curiosity into an amazing career that has included groundbreaking exploratory research deep below the ocean. She also holds the depth record for solo diving at 3,300 feet. Dr. Earle has led more than 100 expeditions worldwide involving in excess of 7000 hours underwater – earning her such laudatory nicknames as "Her Deepness" by the New Yorker and New York Times; "Living Legend" by the Library of Congress, and first "Hero for the Planet" by Time magazine. In addition, she is founder of Mission Blue and SEAlliance, and chair of the Advisory Councils of the Harte Research Institute and the Ocean in Google Earth. Dr. Earle has authored more than 190 scientific, technical, and popular publications, lectured in more than 80 countries, and appeared in hundreds of radio and television productions.
